An earring, as the name indicates, is an ornament worn in the ears. Usually in India a girl’s ears are pierced even before her first birthday. The term ‘ear piercing denotes earlobe piercing while piercing in the upper parts of the external ear is referred to as ‘cartilage’ piercing. Earrings are usually made up of metals like gold and silver, while glass, precious stones and beads are also used in the making of earring components.
